Just a few miracles that have occurred over the last few weeks:

One of the staff members at the Bible College has been trying to build a church in the village where he pastors. However, the people are so poor that raising funds has been difficult. He took a job as a night clerk at an insurance office in order to help with the building program. While working a man came into the office and asked our pastor about his church. The pastor responded: I have a church, but I don’t have a church. He then explained he has a group of people who gather together every week but he has not been able to construct a building. The man instantly offered to give $1200 for the building project! This will cover a major portion of his expenses.

At a recent meeting I was preaching about the healing of the lame man in Acts 3. When the meeting ended and people came forward to testify about their healing, one lady was particularly enthusiastic. She testified that she had been brought to the meeting and was in fact lame when she arrived, unable to even stand. But after we prayed in Jesus name she was healed and walking on her own strength!

One of our students at the Bible College this year found himself in trouble with the law this summer. He prayed for a local boy who was under the influence of a demon. As he prayed the devil left the boy. The parents then called a leader of another religion to come and offer a prayer of celebration. When that man arrived, the devil returned and our student was accused of doing black magic (because in their mind there was no way Jesus could have more power then their god). Recently I asked the student if the issue had been resolved. He replied, nothing has been decided yet (he could face serious troubles if found guilty of using black magic against a person of the main religion here) but that if he had to go to jail for his faith he would gladly start a jail ministry for Jesus! What faith! He is completely willing to give his life to preach the gospel and I know God will honour that great faith.

As a final testimony… this past week 5 students at our college were baptized in Jesus name and on Saturday 5 students received the gift of the Holy Ghost! That means all 24 of our students are now baptized in water and Spirit in accordance to God’s word!

I’m so thrilled about what God is doing in this nation!

I just got a CD of early Pentecostal Holiness preachers. This is great stuff. These messages were originally recorded between 1926 and 1941. I can’t help but think about the differences in preaching over the past 70-85 years. All of these old sermons were full of the need to be baptized and to be changed by the power of God. Above all, they were full of preaching about hell. I mean serious preaching. Sinners are going to hell. Liars are going to hell. Cheaters are going to hell. The list of those going to hell is extensive, of course that would coincide with the Bible. Narrow is the gate…

The other major difference I could hear was the freedom of the preachers. There was no hesitancy to say anything they were feeling. And… the people responded to it all. These preachers were dancing on peoples toes and they were shouting all the louder. Talk about empowering. It is politically correct in 2011 for the preacher to empower the people of God to live for Christ in a way that is comfortable for them. This is not the case everywhere obviously. But what would the church look like if that empowerment was reversed and the people of God empowered their pastor to preach WHATEVER he felt from God without fear of offending people or getting voted out at the next business meeting? From a small sampling of these 28 messages I can’t help but think we’d be much better off setting our preachers free to preach as the Lord leads. And we have that authority. For whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven (Matt 18:18). Why don’t we loose our pastors today and let them PREACH!

Jesus was the son of a carpenter. As such, wood and nails literally sustained his life. They were the tools of his father’s trade, the materials that put food on the table. In the end, wood and nails were the tools that facilitated his death at Calvary. The things that supported life later helped take it away.

I’m asking the Lord for the wisdom to know what things were once supportive that I should let go of today.

Hi all. It has been a while since I posted, I will put some updates on about the summer in the coming weeks. Just wanted to say that I am now back on the field and looking forward to blogging about our experiences once again. Sorry for the complete drop off during the summer, I was only able to post via my phone and I spent an hour one day writing only to lose it all because my fat thumb hit the wrong button on my small touch screen. I decided that day to not blog until I got back on the field.

We’ve been back for a week and already we are seeing miracles! I’m looking forward to telling you all about it in the coming days. For now, it is almost 4AM and I’ve got some insomnia, making this a great time to post a message but not a deep one…

I’ll be posting regularly again so keep your eyes on this page for updates.

Pray that people will be free from the the Spirits that allow such terror.

Pray that the light of Jesus would shine in the darkness of this hour (the answer to terrorism is not more terror/attacks, the answer is JESUS!).

Pray especially for the Christians and North Americans working in Muslim nations who will be targeted for attacks over the next few days.

Pray because lives and souls are still in the balance.

When you read the Easter story it is plain to see the ladies who went to Jesus’ tomb had certain expectations. They expected to find the tomb sealed, they asked themselves “Who will roll away the stone?” (Mark 16:3). They expected a rotting corpse to be emanating foul odors so they took with them sweet smelling spices (Mark 16:1). They expected to find Jesus’ body laying in the tomb. After all, they were then when he died and was sealed inside the grave just a few days earlier.

They expected to find a stone, a stink, and a sacrificed savior.

When they reached the tomb they found the stone rolled had been rolled, the stink had been repelled, and the savior had been risen!

Easter is day to remember God EXCEEDS our greatest expectations!

Yesterday was like my personal Tale of Two Cities… at least the opening line anyway. It was certainly the best of days and the worst of days, or so it seemed. Let’s get the bad out of the way first shall we.

The worst part of being the head of a Bible College (in my opinion anyway) is coming to the understanding that a particular student should no longer be allowed to be a student. As a teacher I believe that anyone who will submit themselves to honest study of the word of God can become an effective and powerful part of God’s kingdom. As the decision maker at the college, I try to exercise caution, mercy and above all prayer when it come to discipline. When a Bible College is run by the principals of prayer and the leading of the Spirit, even those young men who seem to have no interest in Kingdom matters usually end up receiving a personal call from God during their tenure as students.

However, no matter how much the staff prays, or how much mercy is shown, or how much discipline is levied, there are still cases where the student is unwilling to yield his life fully to God. This was the case I was faced with yesterday. After considering many reports and following the wisdom I felt God was imparting to me, I made the decision to expel a young man from our campus. This is not a light thing and I must say the decision was made from a personal brokenness over the situation. Yet, the decision was the right one and I knew God was telling me it was the right time. This young man was starting to drag other students down with him and put the safety of all the students in danger with his reckless actions. This was the worst part of my day… in fact telling a student, his pastor and his family that it has become clear that his unrepentant sins disqualify him from service in God’s kingdom is the worst thing I ever have to do as it goes against my very nature; but we must do what is best, regardless of personal feelings.

At the end of classes yesterday I called all the students and staff together to announce the decision that was made and the reasons for that decision. I had one of our staff members lead us in a time of prayer, both for the expelled student and that we would all confess our hidden sins before God least we too would be judged. The remaining students received the message and spent much time in prayer and repentance before the Lord.

Then as I was preparing to leave my office for the day a knock came to the door. In walked two staff members. One was our District Superintendent (a teacher at the college) the other was an axillary staff member (a non-teaching staff member who does manual work around the campus and who was hired years ago because of a family connection). This second man has never really given his life to Jesus. He was born a nominal Christian but really has no faith in a Biblical sense of the word. My preference is to have a UPC staff working at a UPC college but because of this man’s knowledge of our campus and his lack of direct interaction with our students, I never felt his lack of faith was a major issue.

As soon as the two men entered my office the District Superintendent told me the other man had heard me talking about sin to the students and he wanted to say something to me. He then began confessing of all of his sins and at the end slammed a pack of cigarettes on my desk and he told me he wanted Jesus to clean him and help him live a better life. As we laid hands on this man and prayed he honestly repented of his sins and tears rolled down his face as he spent nearly 20 minutes confessing his faults to Jesus. This was very likely the first time this man had ever prayed.

When we shifted from repentance to thanksgiving this man began to stumble as the Spirit came upon him and he spoke with stammering lips. Only his own lack of understanding and faith kept him from yielding himself to the Holy Ghost but I am confident he will be filled with the Spirit and baptized very shortly.

Yesterday started as a terrible day, a day where my mercy and patience towards one man proved to be for naught. However, my day ended as one of the greatest I’ve experienced on the ‘field’ as God poured out His mercy upon another man I had shown great patience with.

I know as Pentecostals we love stories of people being baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost, but the Bible tells us heaven rejoices over a sinner who comes to God in repentance. How blessed I was yesterday to join the heavenly host in rejoicing as a sinner laid down his sins in my office.

One sinner coming to Jesus = BEST DAY EVER!
